South Africa: Authorities in Gauteng Province reduce water restrictions as of Nov. 2 /update 3

Authorities reduce water restrictions in Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni, South Africa, as of Nov. 2.

Informational

Event

Gauteng Province's water utility Rand Water announced it was lifting stage 2 water restrictions in Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni, effective Nov. 1. Stage 1 water restrictions remain in place in Johannesburg. Water reservoir levels have now reached 60 percent due to recent rainfall. The utility had been reducing its water supply since Oct. 4, citing the ongoing heatwave and poor infrastructure as an explanation for the significantly lower water supply.

Despite reducing restrictions on water supply, municipalities may maintain some restrictions and advisories on usage. These may lead to business disruptions, particularly for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water.
