At least six dead, 53 wounded following earlier suspected bomb explosion on Istiklal Avenue, near Taksim Square, Istanbul, Turkey, Nov. 13.

An earlier explosion at approximately 16:20 Nov. 13 along Istiklal (Independence) Avenue, close to Taksim Square in Istanbul's Beyoglu District, has resulted in casualties. The governor of Istanbul has confirmed that the explosion killed at least six people and wounded 53 others. There are unverified reports the blast was caused by a bomb placed in a bag and left on a bench, but authorities have yet to confirm this. Emergency crews have deployed to the blast site and cordoned off the area. Casualty figures are almost certain to rise further in the coming hours.

There are reports of internet disruptions occurring in Turkey, which may be related to a media ban imposed by authorities that prohibits the publication of video clips or other media which show the moments leading up to and immediately following the blast.
