Authorities have confirmed at least 35 injuries, including 32 injured in Duzce Province, following a magnitude-6.1 earthquake in Duzce Province at around 04:08 Nov. 23. Authorities have reported controlled blackouts in Duzce Province. Power outages were also reported in Istanbul Province. Significant damage is unlikely. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Aftershocks are likely over the coming days.
Officials may temporarily shut down transportation infrastructure in the tremor zone to check for damage. Minor disruptions could occur during shutdowns, but service will likely resume quickly if no damage is found. Utility outages are possible, particularly near the earthquake's epicenter.
The epicenter was about 16 km (10 miles) west of Duzce. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 4 km (2.5 miles), and very strong to severe shaking was probably felt in Duzce Province, with moderate to strong shaking probably felt in Bolu and Sakarya provinces. Light shaking was probably felt in the rest of northwestern Turkey.
