Utility officials in Kampala stated Nov. 26 that water supply to much of Kampala has been disrupted due to a power outage impacting the Ggaba water treatment plant. Restoration efforts are ongoing; however, utility officials did not say when they expect to resume normal operations.

Some businesses may be forced to shut down amid the water outage, especially if the disruption persists for a prolonged period.

Advice

Plan for service disruptions and monitor official sources for updates. Stock up on water supplies in advance. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygiene purposes.
