Assailants attack villages in Djugu Territory, Ituri Province, DRC, Dec. 30. At least 11 people killed.

Armed assailants attacked the villages of Dhadha and Midju in Djugu Territory, Ituri Province, late Dec. 30 killing at least 11 people and injuring at least two others. Media reports suggest that members of the Zaire militia group perpetrated the attack. The motive for the assault is unclear.
Context
The threat of militant violence is severe in eastern regions of the DRC despite the implementation of a State of Siege in Ituri and North Kivu. Fatal attacks and kidnappings conducted by some of the numerous armed groups operating in the area are regularly reported. Militants usually use significant and indiscriminate violence, and foreign personnel may become the target of attacks due to the perception they are wealthy and vulnerable.
