Warning

Event

Activists opposed to the war in Ukraine are protesting in various locations in Cologne as of Dec. 4. Protesters plan to gather at the Ottoplatz, the Rudolfplatz, and march across the Deutzer Bridge. Some reports indicate there is heavy traffic congestion around the Deutzer Bridge as a result of the protest. Counter-protests are planned in the area.

Large crowds and related security measures will likely prompt localized road travel disruptions. Traffic disruptions are also likely along the march route. Low-level skirmishes between demonstrators as well as security personnel are possible. While bystanders are unlikely to be targeted, they will face a significant indirect threat near any violence.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration as a standard security precaution. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the impacted area through the late afternoon of Dec. 4. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
