A magnitude-5.0 earthquake occurred near Mandalay at around 03:16 MMT Dec. 15. The epicenter was about 22 km (14 miles) west-southwest of Mandalay. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and moderate-to-strong shaking was probably felt in areas near the epicenter, with lighter shaking felt in other parts of northern Myanmar. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake; however, damage is possible near the epicenter.
