Netherlands: Unionized rail workers to stage a series of regional strikes in the north Dec. 15-19
Unionized rail workers to stage a series of regional strikes in northern Netherlands Dec. 15-19.
Event
Unionized railway workers employed by Arriva, and represented by the FNV union, have planned a series of 24-hour strikes in the northern Netherlands, Dec. 15-19. The purpose of the action is to demand increased pay in line with inflation. The unions have called off a planned nationwide four-day strike over the same period. Impacted locations are listed below:
Dec. 15: Friesland
Dec. 16: Groningen
Dec. 19: Drenthe.
Related demonstrations are likely outside rail stations and government offices during the strike period.
Unless averted, the strikes will likely result in significant disruption to rail services in the affected regions, including delays and cancelations, and knock-on disruption across the rest of the passenger rail network. Disruptions could continue after the official end of the strike period. Increased congestion is likely on available rail services and other forms of transportation during and after the labor action. Heightened demand for alternative modes of transportation may also result in reduced taxi availability.
Advice
Check services schedules prior to travel if traveling via rail throughout the Netherlands Dec. 15-19. Consider alternative transport options, if necessary. Allow additional time for travel. Exercise caution near protest sites.
