Pakistan: Water and sanitation service employees to stage protest in Peshawar's Hayatabad area Dec. 28

Water and Sanitation Services Company employees to protest outside corporate office in Hayatabad area of Peshawar, Pakistan, Dec. 28.

Warning

Event

Employees of the Water and Sanitation Services Company Peshawar (WSSP) will protest outside the utility's corporate office in Peshawar's Hayatabad area Dec. 28. The purpose of the action is to press for several demands, including the reinstatement of workers who had been declared redundant as part of the company's retrenchment. It remains unclear how many participants the gathering may draw.

Authorities will probably increase security near the protest venue and may attempt to disperse the gathering if it becomes overly disruptive. Clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out. Localized transport disruptions are likely, especially if activists march along or block nearby roadways.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration as a standard security precaution. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the impacted area through the evening of Dec. 28. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
