Belgium: Belgian Ryanair airline staff to strike nationwide, Jan. 7-8 /update 1

Belgian Ryanair airline staff to strike across Belgium, Jan. 7-8. Confirm flight reservations.

Warning

Event

Unionized staff employed by Belgian Ryanair (FR) airline plan to stage a nationwide strike Jan. 7-8. The CNE and AVC Puls unions are demanding higher wages and better working conditions. The action follows a similar strike Dec. 30-Jan. 1 that impacted dozens of flights. Unless averted, the walkout will likely disrupt Ryanair flight operations at Brussels Zaventem (BRU) and Brussels South Charleroi (CRL). Brussels South Charleroi (CRL) will likely be more affected as it is a hub for Ryanair flights.

Flight disruptions could extend for several hours after the end of the planned walkout as affected carriers reposition aircraft and/or work through any passenger backlogs. Striking workers may demonstrate at the airports or Ryanair office buildings.

Advice

Confirm flight status and reservations during the labor action period. Do not check out of accommodations or leave for the airport until onward travel is confirmed.
