Planned power outages will continue in parts of Phnom Penh and surrounding areas through Jan. 15 due to maintenance work. Utility provider Electricite du Cambodge has announced outages on the following days:
Jan. 13: Outages will occur in Prek Pnov, Sen Sok, and Tuol Kouk districts as well as Ta Khmao, Kandal Province 08:00-13:00. Further planned disruptions will take place in Dangkor, Kamboul, Prampi Makara, Mean Chey, Pou Senchey, and Russey Keo districts 08:00-16:00.
Jan. 14: Electricity disruptions are planned in Sen Sok District 08:00-13:00. Further outages will occur in Dangkor, Pou Senchey as well as Ang Snuol and Takhmao districts, Kandal Province 08:00-16:00
Jan. 15: Planned disruptions to take place in Tuol Kork, as well as Ta Khmao, Kandal Province, 08:00-16:00.
Disruptions to business and telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Transport disruptions are likely in areas with malfunctioning traffic signals. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.
Advice
Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
