Event

Transport workers have blocked access to the Tunel de Occidente, located outside of Medellin, which connects Medellin with Santa Fe de Antioquia, Jan. 17. The protest is in opposition to an increase of the cost of the tolls in the area. Activists say they plan to maintain the roadblock until they get a response from authorities; a previous protest affecting roads in eastern Medellin, including those leading to the Jose Maria Cordova International Airport (MDE), has ended.

Significant transport disruptions are likely in the coming hours in western Medellin. Clashes between demonstrators and police and demonstrators and other drivers in the area cannot be ruled out.
