Suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militants attacked the villages of Ofay, Nayala, Kahachini, and Bandesende in Irumu Territory, Ituri Province, Jan. 29. Initial reports indicate at least 15 people died in the assaults. Soldiers reportedly repelled the militants after the initial attacks. The death toll may increase once officials are able to return to the villages.

Context

The threat of militant violence is severe in eastern regions of the DRC despite the implementation of a State of Siege in Ituri and North Kivu.
