DRC to host Pope Francis in Kinshasa Jan. 31-Feb. 3. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Event
Pope Francis will visit Kinshasa Jan. 31-Feb. 3. Details of the visit are as follows:
Jan. 31: The Pope will land at Kinshasa N'djili International Airport (FIH) in the afternoon. He will then meet President Felix Tshisekedi at the People's Palace and give a public speech.
Feb. 1: The Pope will celebrate a public mass at Ndolo Airport (NLO) in the morning.
Feb. 2: The Pope will meet youths at the Martyr Stadium in the morning. In the afternoon, he will move to the Our Lady of the Congo Cathedral to meet personnel from the Congolese Chuch.
Feb. 3: The Pope will meet bishops who are members of the Cenco (National Episcopal Conference of Congo) at the CENCO headquarters.
Increased security is highly likely near sites hosting official events. Tight security is also possible at FIH airport as the Pope arrives and departs the country. Police will probably temporarily block roads near event sites and routes between stops on the Pope's itinerary. Localized business and transport disruptions are likely.
