Informational

Event

Unionized train and bus staff to strike Jan. 19-20, after pay negotiations between unions and employers broke down. Thousands of workers affiliated with the FNV union are expected to heed the strike. Local and regional rail and bus services will be affected nationwide. The exceptions are intercity and other rail services run by NS, and bus and tram services in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, which will run normally.

The strike will impact local and regional bus services across the country, prompting likely delays and cancelations of some services. Transport operators have not currently estimated the level of disruptions for the upcoming strike. The action could result in increased traffic congestion and greater demand for alternative modes of transport. Related demonstrations are possible in town and city centers.

Advice

Confirm public transport schedules and local traffic conditions before travel and allow extra time to complete journeys Jan 19-20. Make alternative travel arrangements if necessary.
