Portugal: Unionized TAP Air Portugal cabin crew to strike nationwide Jan. 25-31 to protest working conditions

Unionized TAP cabin crew to strike across Portugal Jan. 25-31. Flight cancelations likely. Reconfirm flights.

Warning

Event

Unionized TAP Air Portugal (TP) cabin crew will strike Jan. 25-31, after failing to reach an agreement with employers over pay and working conditions. Staff represented by the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SPNVAC) are likely to heed the strike.

Unless averted, the work stoppage will probably force the carrier to cancel the majority of its domestic and international flights scheduled Jan. 25-31, although services to the Azores and Madeira are protected and will operate normally. Disruptions could extend for several hours after the end of the strike as authorities reposition aircraft and work through its passenger backlog.

Context

A previous strike Dec. 8-9 led to around 360 flight cancellations.

Advice

Reconfirm flight status if booked to fly TAP Air Portugal Jan. 25-31. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed.
