Dominican Republic: Medical doctors to hold a partial nationwide strike Feb. 9-10

Medical doctors to hold a partial nationwide strike in the Dominican Republic Feb. 8-9.

Informational

Event

Medical doctors affiliated with the Dominican Medical Associations (Colegio Medico Dominicano, CMD) plan to hold a nationwide partial strike Feb. 9-10 to demand changes in the Dominican Republic's social security system.

During the strike, medical workers will cancel all appointments for people affiliated with the Subsidized Regime Administrators (Administratoras de Regime Subsidiado, ARS) insurance, which includes more than five million people. Emergency services will continue to be provided. CMD leaders have said further action may be taken if authorities do not answer their demands.

Limited medical services are likely during the duration of the strike. Overcrowding in medical services that will be operational is likely.
