Further protests are possible in Sake, North Kivu, in the coming days following disruptive unrest Feb. 4. Protesters blocked a United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) vehicle convoy in the town. During the confrontation, at least one person was injured. Demonstrators accuse MONUSCO of collaborating with M-23 rebels.
Sake is located immediately west of Goma along the RN2 route. Further protests could disrupt traffic along this roadway. Officials could deploy security personnel to monitor any further action. Further confrontations are possible.
