Germany: Airport staff at multiple airports to strike Feb. 17

Airport staff at multiple airports in Germany to strike Feb. 17; passenger processing delays and flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Airport workers represented by the Ver.di labor union plan to strike at several airports Feb. 17 to demand increased pay. Work stoppages will take place at:

  • Bremen Airport (BRE)

  • Dortmund Airport (DTM)

  • Frankfurt Airport (FRA)

  • Hamburg Airport (HAM)

  • Hanover Airport (HAJ)

  • Munich International Airport (MUC)

  • Stuttgart Airport (STR)

The strike will likely lead to processing delays and flight disruptions, including cancelations, at the affected airports. Ver.di has indicated the strikes should not affect aid deliveries to areas impacted by the Turkish-Syrian earthquake. Disruptions could persist after the strike concludes as carriers work to reposition aircraft. Related demonstrations are possible outside terminal buildings; all such actions will likely remain peaceful.

Advice

Confirm flight status before setting out for affected airports Feb. 17. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow additional time to clear passenger processing and airport security procedures.
