Activists to stage nationwide anti-hunting protests in Spain, Feb. 5. Main squares in urban centers likely to be affected.
Event
The activist group, No a la Caza (NAC), plan to stage an annual nationwide anti-hunting protest in Spain Feb. 5. The protests are scheduled to start 12:00 at all protest venues across the peninsula, and 11:00 in the Canary Islands. The largest gatherings will be in Barcelona, at the Arc de Triomf, and in Madrid, at the Plaza del Callao. For further information about additional protest venues, please click here. The protests tend to draw hundreds to thousands of participants, and are held at main squares and plazas in urban centers.
Localized disruptions around protest-related events are likely. Police will likely deploy to monitor protests. Parties opposed to the new Law for the Protection, Rights and Welfare of Animals may stage counter-protests. Violence is unlikely as the protests tend to be peaceful, but isolated scuffles between police, protesters and/or counter-protesters cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Avoid protests as a precaution. Heed instructions from authorities. Allow additional time for travel in affected areas.
