Activists protesting on Calzada de Tlalpan in Mexico City, Mexico, March 2. Traffic disruptions reported.

Warning

Event

Residents from Colonia Viaducto Piedad are protesting on Calzada de Tlalpan, near the Viaducto Metro Station in downtown Mexico City March 2. The purpose of the action is to denounce what residents perceive to be misuse of facilities and public roads in the area. The demonstration is reportedly causing significant transport disruptions in the surrounding area.

Although the action has remained largely peaceful, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased police presence nearby as a precaution. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if authorities attempt to forcibly disperse crowds. Localized business disruptions are likely.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a safe, nongovernmental building. Seek alternative routes to circumvent related transport disruptions and allow additional time to reach destinations. Do not attempt to navigate around any roadblocks set up by protesters; allow police to dismantle them before proceeding. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
