South Africa: Ongoing student protest affecting Wits University's Johannesburg campus, March 1

Students of Wits University in Johannesburg have embarked on a shutdown of the campus over tuition fees, Mach 1. They are reportedly demanding, amongst other issues, that indebted students may be allowed to register. University administration has advised non-protesting staff and students to avoid entering through Yale Road North (Empire Road).

Heightened security is likely near the protest. Clashes between security and protesting students are possible should the latter become overly disruptive. Ground travel and business disruptions are possible along the nearby routes, including Empire Road, the N1, and Enoch Sontonga Avenue.
