Students at Wits University in Johannesburg have embarked on a shutdown of the campus over tuition fees, for the second successive day, as of Mach 2. Clashes between protesters and security personnel have spread beyond the campus precinct and into adjacent streets. Demonstrators have set up roadblocks and vandalized nearby businesses. They are reportedly demanding, amongst other issues, that indebted students may be allowed to register.

Security forces gave been deployed to monitor the protest. Further clashes between security and protesting students are possible should the latter continue to be overly disruptive in the coming hours. Ground travel and business disruptions are likely along the nearby routes, including Empire Road, the N1, and Enoch Sontonga Avenue.

Avoid the protest. If clashes occur, leave the area immediately. Heed instructions of authorities. Plan for road travel delays.
