Warning

Event

The US military has claimed responsibility for airstrikes targeting Iran-backed militia positions in Deir ez-Zur early March 24. No casualties have been reported so far. The attack comes after a suspected Iranian drone hit a coalition base near Al-Hasakah March 23, killing a US contractor and five US service members.

Heightened security is likely at US-led coalition bases in eastern Syria over the coming days. Further airstrikes and retaliatory attacks are possible over the short term.

Advice

Exercise caution and avoid all military sites in Syria. Heed the instructions of local security forces. If airstrikes, artillery fire, or warning sirens are reported in the general vicinity, take cover in the nearest bomb shelter and remain there until given further instructions by authorities.
