Planned power outage to occur in the Western Division of Viti Levu, Fiji, 05:00-17:00 April 16. Business and transport disruptions possible.
Event
Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) announced that planned power outages will occur in parts of Western Division, Viti Levu, 05:00-17:00 April 16. The utility provider will be conducting maintenance work on a transmission line from Wailoa Power Station to Nadarivatu Switchyard. The disruption is expected to affect thousands of EFL customers.
Traffic disruptions are possible due to malfunctioning traffic signals in affected areas. Businesses without backup generators may suspend operations until power resumes. Mobile voice and data service, ATM, and fuel station disruptions are also possible in areas without electricity. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during the electricity disruptions.
Advice
Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Limit the use of mobile and communication devices to preserve power and ensure backup batteries are available. Plan for traffic delays due to the potential for malfunctioning or nonfunctional traffic lights. Exercise caution when driving in the impacted areas, especially at night. Verify that security systems are working. Ensure that generators are functional and refuel when necessary.
