Warning

Event

The Pan-African Network for Peace, Democracy, and Development (Reseau Panafricain pour la Paix, la Democratie, et le Developpement, REPPAD) and the M62 movement plan to stage a demonstration at the Palace of Justice (Palais de Justice) in Niamey starting at 08:00 April 14 to oppose the verdict of a court hearing against the president of REPPAD and coordinator of M62, Abdoulaye Seydou. It remains unclear how many participants the gathering may draw.

A heightened security presence and localized transport and business disruptions are likely around the courthouse. Clashes with security forces remain possible, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice

Avoid the protest as a standard precaution. Consider using alternative routes if operating near the impacted area. Abide by all official directives. If violence occurs, leave the area immediately and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building.
