Power outage ended in eastern parts of Pretoria, South Africa, as of April 13

Informational

Event

As of April 13, power has been fully restored to eastern Pretoria, Gauteng Province. Mamelodi, Waltloo, Silverton, Silver Lankes, Faerie Glen, Equestria, Mooikloof, Doornpoort, Waterval, Grootvlei East, Grootvlei West, Bultfontein, Rooiwal, Vastfontein extension, Lyttleton Die Hoewas and parts of Moreletapark had been without electricity since April 9. The outage was due to the collapse of a major power line.

Sudden power trips remain possible as technicians work on repairing damaged infrastructure. Any power outage could result in temporary disruptions, including the unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations, and adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during the outage.

Advice

Use power sparingly if operating in the previously affected area. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Verify that security systems are operational. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled. Monitor local news sources for further developments.
