US, Mexico: Authorities temporarily close the Paso del Norte International Bridge, between Ciudad Juarez and El Paso, due to a protest April 10
Officials close the Paso del Norte International Bridge, which connects Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and El Paso, Texas, US, April 10.
Event
Authorities temporarily closed the Del Paso International Bridge, a border crossing between Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and El Paso, Texas, on April 10, due to a migrant protest on the Mexican side of the border; protesters allege they are not being allowed to apply for asylum in the US.
Approximately 300 migrants had gathered near the crossing point when Mexican authorities decided to close the border crossings. Moreover, officials in the US have also placed barricades along the bridge to reduce vehicle traffic.
Authorities will likely maintain increased security measures along the Paso del Norte International Bridge. The protest and associated border closure will prompt transport and business disruptions for the coming hours. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Avoid the area. Plan for delays and for alternative border crossing points if operating in the area.
