Event

Activists, including students, are holding a protest outside the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville, Tennessee, early April 6, to oppose the plans to expel three members of the state's House of Representatives and to demand legislation over the use and possession of guns.

Heightened security in the area is likely. Transport and business disruptions around the Capitol are possible. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out, especially if demonstrators attempt to enter the building.

Context

The protest comes 10 days after a shooting at a school left six people, including three children, dead, in Nashville. Multiple demonstrations in the city, and especially around the State Capitol, have occurred since, with students, teachers, and other organizations demanding legislation to regulate the use of guns in the state.

Additionally, the majority of the state's House of Representatives plans to expel three members of the Democratic Party, due to their actions during recent sessions of the legislature. The members interrupted speakers and used a bullhorn to demand legislation on guns, in support of the protests around the Capitol.
