Serbia: Authorities to increase security measures in public places nationwide from May 8

Heightened security measures, including increased police patrols, in public places across Serbia from May 8. Disruptions possible.

Warning

Event

Authorities will increase security measures in public places and near schools nationwide starting May 8 following two mass shootings in the country in recent days: a minor killed eight people in a school in Belgrade on May 3, and an attacker killed eight people in a shooting spree in the towns of Dubona, Malo Orasje, and Sepsin on May 4. Interior Ministry officials state additional police will be deployed in areas where the public gathers, including shopping centers, parks, and public squares. Police will also conduct additional patrols near schools.

Additional measures, such as vehicular and pedestrian checks, are possible. Increased security measures may prompt localized transport and business disruptions.

Advice

Exercise caution if operating in public spaces in Serbia. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan for possible localized business and transport disruptions. Carry proper identification documents to present to security forces upon request. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
