Informational

Event

Rand Water has issued a statement warning that the utility would cut the water supply in parts of Ekurhuleni, eastern Johannesburg, from 18:00 May 26-15:00 May 29. The water cuts are to allow planned maintenance on two pipelines servicing the Brakpan Reservoir. Affected areas include the City of Ekurhuleni, Victor Khanye Local Municipality, Govan Mbeki Local Municipality, Lesedi Local Municipality, and Winkelhaak Mines.

Water shortages are likely and could extend beyond the scheduled interruption. Some business disruptions are possible, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water.

Advice

Stock up on drinking water. Minimize nonessential water use. Confirm alternative water supplies for business operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
