Authorities are investigating a pair of abandoned baggage aboard an Avianca (AV) plane bound for Bogota at the Alfonso Lopez Pumarejo Airport (VUP) in Valledupar the evening of June 1. Police have evacuated passengers from the plane as a precaution and a bomb squad is at the scene. There have been no reports of injuries.

Heightened security and localized ground transport disruptions are likely in the coming hours as clearing operations continue. Reports indicate flight delays at VUP due to the incident. Lingering disruptions are possible after regular flights resume as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.

VUP is around 105 km (65 miles) southwest of Albania, La Guajira Department.
