Colombia: Various groups to stage pro-government demonstrations in Bogota and other cities June 7 /update 1

Several activist, political, and labor groups plan to stage rallies in cities across Colombia on June 7. The purpose of the action is to show support for reforms implemented by the administration of President Gustavo Petro. The main demonstration will take place in Bogota, where activists will gather at Parque Nacional starting at 09:00 before marching to Plaza de Bolivar. Organizers have released no information concerning the specific march route; however, the demonstration will probably pass in front of multiple government buildings, including Congress. Thousands of participants could attend the event in Bogota.

Other demonstrations are scheduled to take place in the following cities on June 7:

  • Barranquilla and Santa Marta: Activists from both cities will gather from 09:00 at the Sena Comercial del Atlantico.

  • Bucaramanga: Demonstrators will gather from 15:00 at Puerta del Sol.

  • Cali: Organizers have confirmed four demonstration sites. Participants will gather from 07:00 at the Universidad del Vale, from 09:00 at the Unidad Deportiva de Alto Rendimiento, from 10:00 at Parque Las Banderas, and from 11:00 outside the Prosecutor's Office.

  • Cartagena: Participants will gather from 16:00 at the Bazurto Market and march along Avenida Pedro Heredia, passing through the Castillo San Felipe and India Catalina. The march will end at Plaza de La Paz in the Historic Center.

  • Medellin: Organizers have confirmed three demonstration sites. Demonstrators will gather from 11:00 at Parque de la Resistencia, Parque de las Luces, and outside the Bunker of the Attorney General's Office.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that may materialize.

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations near rally locations on June 7. Heed the instructions of authorities.
