DRC: Authorities maintaining overnight security curfew in Kwango Province as of June 24

Authorities maintaining 20:00-06:00 curfew in Kwango Province, DRC, as of June 24, following renewed militia advances.

Warning

Event

Officials in the Kwango Province are implementing a 20:00-06:00 security curfew as of June 24. The announcement was made on June 22 following renewed advances of a local militia known as Mobondo or Batshongo in different villages of the province. Security forces arrested three militants in the Kolokoso area on June 22. A similar curfew was implemented in May after clashes between the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC) and the militia left at least 11 individuals dead, including civilians. The curfew reportedly remains in place through early July.

Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security presence in Kwango over the coming days, including along the N1 highway. Transport and business disruptions are possible due to the curfew, especially in any areas that are subject to other increased security measures. Clashes involving militias and security forces cannot be ruled out in the province in the coming days.

Advice

If operating in Kwango, limit nonessential travel. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance and avoid concentrations of security personnel. Consider traveling in convoy with a security escort and during daylight hours only. Maintain contact with diplomatic missions. Adhere to all directives issued by local authorities, including curfew orders.
