Informational

Event

Striking metal workers are protesting near Vigo Airport (VGO) on June 22. Demonstrations began at 09:30 from the premises of the Vigo Fair Institute (IFEVI) on Avenue do Aeroporto. Participants later blocked Avenue de Peinador, reportedly disturbing traffic in the surrounding area, including on the N-555 Highway near Vigo Airport. The UGT, CCOO, and CIG labor unions called for the strike and protest amid negotiations aimed at improving work conditions; however, no agreement has been reached. The demonstration is reportedly part of a wider strike ongoing in the region since June 15. Smaller related demonstrations are ongoing on industrial estates in Pontevedra and O Salnes; limited disruptions have been reported. Further gatherings in other areas of the region are likely in the coming days.

Authorities have deployed riot police in the area, blocking the march. Security is likely to remain heightened in the coming hours. Some low-level clashes have been reported. Transport disruptions will likely continue in the affected area. Further skirmishes between protesters and law enforcement are likely.

Advice

Avoid the demonstrations as a routine security precaution and to mitigate the impact of any associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
