The Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (Acueductos y Alcantarillados, AyA) has implemented rolling water rationing across parts of Aserri, Desamparados, Escazu, Goicoechea, Moravia, Santa Ana cantons in Metro San Jose as of July 11 due to seasonally reduced rainfall. Outages are scheduled to last until at least July 16 but may extend without notice. Water cuts in individual locations may last up to eight hours. Authorities estimate water disruptions to affect approximately 275,000 users.

Business disruptions are possible during water outages, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water for their operations.

Advice

Stock up on drinking water and confirm alternative water supplies for business operations. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Minimize nonessential water use throughout the outage.
