Mexico: Heightened security likely in Tlajomulco, Jalisco State, as police respond to explosion late July 11

Heightened security likely in Tlajomulco, Jalisco, Mexico after explosion late July 11. Transport and business disruptions probable.

Warning

Event

Heightened security is likely near Tlajamulco de Zuniga, Jalisco State, as authorities respond to a bomb attack on a security team late July 11. A vehicle-born detachment from the Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office (Fiscalia Estatal, FE) was reportedly investigating the suspected site of crime-related human remains in the evening when a bomb detonated close to their vehicle near the intersection of Flaviano Ramos and Abasolo in the Larios neighborhood. The incident killed at least three security officers and wounded 10 others. A large security presence, including elements from the police, National Guard (Guardia Nacional), and Mexican Army, have deployed to the scene to secure the area and conduct investigations. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, though it was almost certainly an ambush by members of a drug-trafficking organization (DTO), most likely the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion, CJNG).

Transport and business disruptions are likely in the coming hours as security operations and investigations continue. Further violence is possible.

Tlajamulco de Zuniga is approximately 22 km (14 miles) south-southwest of Guadalajara.

Advice

Avoid the area and strictly heed instructions from authorities. Plan for extra travel time near the affected area. If violence occur, immediately take shelter in a secure, nongovernment building.
