Nepal: Activists from Rastriya Prajatantra Party plan protest in Kathmandu July 21
Rastriya Prajatantra Party to stage march in Kathmandu, Nepal, 14:00 July 21. Increased security, localized transport disruptions likely.
Event
Activists from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) plan to march from Bhadrakali Temple to Ratna Park in Kathmandu, passing through Asan Bazar and New Road, from 14:00 July 21. The protest is to call for strengthened border protection, to denounce alleged foreign interference, and to demand the establishment of Nepal as a Hindu state. Participation is unclear; dozens to a few hundred people could participate in the event.
Although the event is likely to pass off without major incident, authorities will likely monitor the action and may attempt to disperse the crowd if it is especially disruptive. The march is likely to cause localized transport disruptions, especially if demonstrators block roadways. Minor isolated skirmishes are possible if the protestors defy security restrictions.
Advice
Exercise caution along the march route. If any clashes break out, immediately depart the area and seek shelter at a safe nongovernmental building. Allow additional travel time to reach nearby destinations. Heed all security and traffic advisories.
