Informational

Event

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has announced power outages in parts of Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts, Bagmati Province, 08:30-16:30 July 22 due to maintenance works. Impacted areas include central parts of Kathmandu and Lalitpur cities. Operations of essential government offices and large private businesses typically remain unaffected due to the use of generators.

Limited disruptions to local businesses, telecommunications, and internet connections, as well as electronic water filtration systems, may occur. Transport disruptions are possible in limited areas that use traffic signals. Power outages could also cause temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.

Advice

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in Kathmandu and Lalitpur. Confirm business appointments during the outage. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
