The Nigerien military will likely maintain increased security near Doukou Saro and neighboring Doukou Makani village, Tillaberi Region, in the coming days after an armed attack by unknown assailants left at least 12 people dead on July 20. Reports indicate that armed individuals on motorcycles indiscriminately attacked farmers cultivating their fields around 14:00. A Nigerien Defense and Security Forces (FDS) unit was deployed to apprehend the perpetrators. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the incident.
Increased security and localized disruptions are likely in the coming days. Authorities could impose enhanced security measures, including movement restrictions, vehicle checks, curfews, and/or bans on public gatherings. Further armed attacks and clashes are possible.
