Informational

Event

Unionized dockworkers and port logistics personnel are striking in the ports of Lisbon and Setubal from through Nov. 5. The SEAL union has called the strike to demand changes in the management of operations and overall better conditions for dockworkers; the strike may be called off at short notice.

Cargo loading and unloading procedures at the ports will likely be disrupted. Port authorities will likely deploy third-party personnel to ensure business continuity, however, disruptions to port operations remain possible. Protests by striking personnel are possible during the industrial action, however, no major demonstrations have been announced.

Advice

Expect possible disruptions in port operations from July 5 to Nov. 5. Ensure loading and unloading operations are possible ahead of docking, and plan for possible delays. Avoid any gathering that may occur in the port areas through the strike.
