Portugal: Unionized airport ground handling staff continuing indefinite nationwide work-to-rule strike as of July 20

Unionized ground handling staff continuing indefinite work-to-rule strike at airports across Portugal as of July 20.

Informational

Event

Unionized ground staff are continuing their ongoing work-to-rule strike at airports across Portugal as of July 20. The purpose of the action is to push for increased payment for work on holidays; labor leaders have given no indication as to when the strike may end. The move comes in advance of two full work stoppages planned for July 30-31 and Aug. 5-6.

The strike could cause moderate disruption to airport ground operations across Portugal. Delays in checking in for flights, clearing security, and retrieving checked baggage are possible. Some sporadic flight delays could also occur.

Advice

Arrive at the airport early to mitigate the impact of longer passenger processing times. Allow additional time between scheduled landing and arrival at final destination due to probable delays in retrieving checked luggage.
