Further gang-related violence is possible in Johannesburg's Riverlea area through early August following recent clashes. Rival armed groups, thought to be involved in illegal mining in the area, engaged in confrontations in the area overnight July 29/30. As many as 20 casualties were reported. The epicenter of the confrontations is reportedly Zamamphilo. The violence, the latest recently, is likely between illegal miners (Zama Zamas) over control of informal mining sites.

Any further clashes will pose an incidental threat to bystanders in the vicinity. Responses to the violence, including security force deployments or protests, could impact roads in the area, including Main Reef Road located between Riverlea and Industria.
