Antimonarchical activists launched a protest in Caldes de Malavella on July 5 against the presence of the Spanish Royal Family in the area. Hundreds have marched from Avinguda del Doctor Furest I Roca to the premises of Hotel Camiral, where the royal family hosts an event by the Princess of Girona Foundation (FPdGi).

Police have prevented demonstrators from entering the hotel area. Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely for the coming hours. Clashes between protesters and police are unlikely but cannot be ruled out.
