Spain: Metal workers to strike and demonstrate in Vigo July 6-7

Unionized metal workers plan to strike and protest in Vigo, July 6-7. The labor union CIG (Intersydicate confederation of Galicia) is demanding increased pay for its members. The times and march routes for the demonstrations are not yet confirmed. On previous days of industrial action, June 20 and 22, tens of thousands of metal workers tool part in protest marches. Further strikes and protests are planned for July 12-13.

Police will likely deploy in significant numbers to monitor and manage the demonstration. Security measures and associated road closures will likely cause traffic disruptions. The protest is likely to remain peaceful, but skirmishes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out.
