Warning

Event

Emergency crews are responding to a large fire at a propane business facility on 40th and Washington streets in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, July 20. Reports indicate that explosions were heard in the area. The fire is reportedly taking place near the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX); officials said the fire has not affected operations at the airport although they are considering shutting down a runway. Authorities are evacuating within a 1 mile (2 km) radius of the fire. The cause of the fire remains unclear.

Heightened security and localized business and transport disruptions are likely in the coming hours as firefighting operations continue. Flight disruptions at PHX are likely if officials close a runway. Additional evacuations are also possible.
