Bulgaria: Additional protests possible in Stara Zagora as of Aug. 8 following previous demonstrations denouncing violence against women
Further protests denouncing violence against women possible in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, as of Aug. 8. Tight security, disruptions possible.
Event
Further protests are possible in Stara Zagora over the coming days following a series of demonstrations that took place July 31 and Aug. 1. Protests condemning violence against women materialized in reaction to a high-profile assault of an 18-year-old Stara Zagora resident by her partner. The amount of participants the events may draw remains unclear; however, previous demonstrations were well attended.
Transport disruptions are possible during any demonstrations that may materialize. Authorities may deploy additional security in the vicinity of any protests. While such gatherings will probably remain largely peaceful, isolated clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Avoid protest areas as a general precaution. Plan for potential delays if traveling through areas such as city or town centers where protests may occur. Leave the area at the first sign of a security disturbance. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
