Fiji: Activists plan to hold protest march in Suva Aug. 25

Activists from various civil and environmental groups plan to protest in Suva Aug. 25. Participants intend to denounce Japan's plan to discharge radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean from Aug. 24. Protesters will gather at Suva Flea Market from 10:00 before heading to Albert Park for a rally. Dozens to a few hundred people could attend the event.

Authorities will likely monitor the gathering and could deploy additional security in the vicinity of the protest. Localized transport disruptions are possible along the march route. While the protest will likely remain peaceful, minor isolated skirmishes cannot be ruled out.
