Authorities in Fiji are implementing heightened security measures in Suva as of Aug. 15 due to increased criminal activity in the city. Officials will deploy around 100 police officers and erect checkpoints throughout Suva as part of the measures, which will remain in effect until further notice. In July, the Canadian, New Zealand, and US governments issued alerts advising their citizens to remain vigilant in the capital due to the increased risk of assaults and robberies in downtown areas, particularly at night.

Heightened security measures may prompt localized transport disruptions, especially at night. Authorities may close roadways to facilitate security checks.
