Germany: Activist groups to stage anti-Putin demonstration in central Berlin Aug. 20

Activists to stage an anti-Putin rally and march in central Berlin, Germany, 14:00-18:00 Aug. 20. Heightened security, disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Activists plan to hold a demonstration denouncing Russian President Vladimir Putin in central Berlin from 14:00-18:00 Aug. 20. Participants will gather at Robert-Koch-Platz at 14:00 before marching to Pariser Platz. The march route will follow Luisenstrasse, Wilhelmstrasse, and Unter den Linden, passing the Russian Embassy where a rally will take place before participants proceed to Pariser Platz. While it remains unclear how many participants the event may draw, attendance will probably be low.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely at rally points, particularly at the Russian embassy, and along the march route during the demonstration. While the event will likely remain largely peaceful, low-level confrontations cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the rally and march areas as the demonstration is taking place. Allow additional travel time to reach nearby destinations. Depart the area at the first indication of any security disturbance.
